How to Search Civil Dockets
Gather the cause number, court name, party names, and a rough filing window before you begin a docket search. Donley County offers no search-all-cases box. For District and County Court files, the County/District Clerk is the local route. OCA names iDocket as the case-management system, though the county does not promise its public vendor view is complete or current.
re:SearchTX covers electronic documents that fall within its reach. It supplements each trial court rather than replacing it. Justice-court cases go through the correct precinct clerk. A written county request can travel by mail, fax, or in person when that path fits the record you need.
- Confirm the court shown on the newest filing or notice.
- Search by cause number first, then by party name.
- Compare the case style, category, court, and filing date.
- Review the event list and identify the document actually needed.
- Ask the custodian for access, a plain copy, or certification.
Donley Civil Court Routing
Donley County Court handles civil and probate categories reported by OCA. The 100th District Court carries civil, family, probate, juvenile, and child-protection categories. Justice courts handle lower civil matters within their jurisdiction, and JP 1-2 and JP 3-4 keep separate precinct routes. Municipal courts generally address ordinance and applicable state-law matters, not ordinary district civil disputes.
A combined County/District Clerk contact does not merge the court dockets. The caption, cause number, court designation, and case type decide where the civil file belongs. County Court contact is (806) 874-3625. The clerk uses (806) 874-3436. Justice matters should go to JP 1-2 at (806) 874-2016 or JP 3-4 at (806) 856-5914.
The official County Court panel is a useful routing source.

That panel is not a civil docket. Confirm the cause with the clerk before requesting a file.
What a Civil Docket Shows
A Donley County civil docket logs events; it does not retell the whole dispute. Entries may look bare even when a case is active. Treat the fields as items to verify in a live result, since portals do not all use the same labels.
| Cause number | The court-assigned identifier used to locate the file. |
|---|---|
| Case style | The caption naming parties at the system level. |
| Filing and service | Dates for the petition, answer, citation, and return where shown. |
| Motions and settings | Requests for orders and scheduled hearings. |
| Orders and judgment | Filed rulings and the dispositive court determination. |
| Access marker | A document link, redaction, restriction, or sealing indicator. |
Discovery, notices, counterclaims, mediated orders, costs, dismissal, and appeal entries may all show up. If a document is missing from an event screen, that does not mean it is missing from the clerk's file.
Donley District Civil Activity
OCA's FY 2025 district report covers September 1, 2024 through August 31, 2025. It recorded 414 active pending at the start of the period. That count covers Donley district civil activity. Another 47 were added and 53 disposed. The period closed with 408 active pending. These are aggregate workload measures, not a list of 408 cases.
The same report row lists family headings with their own values. Keep them out of civil totals. iDocket inventory counts and OCA annual activity answer different questions too, and they must stay separate.
Types of Civil Cases on the Docket
Each court controls the type of Donley County civil docket it keeps. District records can include general civil, family, probate, juvenile, and child-protection categories. County Court reports civil and probate. Justice courts take civil matters within their statutory jurisdiction.
- Contract and other general civil claims filed in the proper trial court
- Property and tort matters within the assigned court's jurisdiction
- Family cases, with access limits where law or an order applies
- Probate matters maintained through the responsible clerk
- Lower civil matters filed in the correct justice precinct
A category is just a routing label. It is not a judgment, so read the filing history and final order before concluding what the court decided.
Donley Civil Docket Entry Terms
Entries often sit close together but mean different things. A motion asks the court for an order. A setting puts an event on the calendar. A continuance postpones it. A judgment is a court determination, while a dismissal is a form of disposition. Check each line against its filed document.
- Service or return
- An entry tied to delivery of process and its reported result.
- Motion
- A party's request for a court order.
- Reset
- A new event date, not a case outcome.
- Order
- A filed judicial direction or ruling.
- Judgment
- A dispositive determination, subject to later procedure or appeal.
A docket line can note that an order was filed without showing its text. When exact terms matter, request the document itself.
Settings and Hearings on Civil Dockets
Civil settings in Donley County may include motion hearings, pretrial conferences, status conferences, and trials. Check the docket for the current date, time, judge, location, and setting type. An old date can linger in the history after a reset.
When the online record is unclear, call the clerk. District settings may involve the 100th District Court coordinator. The official county page and OCA directory conflict on current coordinator contact details, so confirm which line and location are current. A statutory district term may begin in March or October. It promises no hearing for a specific civil case.

Donley Foreclosure Notice Limits
Donley County's Foreclosure and Sheriff Sales page is a related civil notice source. A sale notice may name a date and a property-related event. It is not the complete underlying civil docket. The judgment, execution papers, orders, returns, and later activity stay in the appropriate court file. Treat the notice as its own public channel. The official Donley sale-notice index shows this separate public channel.

Use the notice as a starting clue. Search the cause, then ask the clerk for the filed judgment or order you need.
Key distinction: A public sale notice is not the court's complete civil case file.
Public Access to Civil Dockets
Texas law treats civil court records as open by default. Rule 76a of the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure creates that presumption, and it also permits sealing when its stated standard is met. The rule honors statutory limits too. Two different tools keep sensitive material out of view. Rule 21c requires redaction of sensitive data in covered filings, which strips selected details from the public copy. Sealing is different. It closes off the record or document itself.
Donley County handles open-records requests through its Open Records page, which uses Texas Public Information Act language for material the county holds. Case files are another matter. Those requests go to the responsible clerk or court, and Rule 12 governs certain judicial administrative records. Treat these as separate paths, not one system.
Access rules:
Texas Rules 76a and 21c address civil sealing and sensitive-data redaction.
Texas Rule of Judicial Administration 12 governs access to covered judicial records.
Some files carry extra limits beyond the general presumption of openness. Statutes or court orders can restrict juvenile, child-protection, family, probate, and mental-health material. Ask the clerk what access a specific file allows.
Donley Clerk Copies Versus Portals
Electronic portals can help, within limits. re:SearchTX may provide a public electronic document from an integrated court. iDocket may offer a vendor index or case view when public access is working. Neither is a substitute for the real thing. A certified copy comes from the clerk and bears authentication for official use.
The clerk page lists a recording fee of $25 for the first page and $4 for each additional page per instrument. That fee applies to recordings. Do not read it as a full schedule for every court copy. Donley County publishes no complete civil-copy fee table, no fixed turnaround, no public-terminal statement, and no online copy-order form. Get a written estimate before you pay.
| Source | Best use | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| iDocket | Vendor case index when current access is confirmed | Public completeness is not promised |
| re:SearchTX | Covered electronic documents | Integration and document coverage vary |
| Clerk | Complete file questions, plain or certified copies | Access and fees depend on the requested item |
Mail works too. Send requests to Vicky Tunnell, Donley County Clerk, Drawer U, Clarendon, Texas 79226. Fax is an option at (806) 874-3351. Confirm acceptance first. In person, go to the responsible counter during published office hours.
